no bandaids.
scabs where they dont have time to heal

david couldn't go back and try again. he had wrecked everything. smashed whatever was in his path. without abandon. in his glassy-world. with bare feet unable sidestep shards. he regretted it later, but fate plays vegas. and has no pity.

gia stopped running and couldn't start up again. like a broken alarm clock. like a chillingly still heart. the world now moves forward ahead of her, and she is lost in its rough wake. stuck still. and bobbing.

thom cant remember anything. some things are just lost. ghosts cuff his ankles with locked muscles. pulled down like an anchor. he could probably unharness them. shed them. if he had the vaguest idea what they were. he feels weary and old—bleary and cold. but he doesnt know why.

julie has been strip mined. the scratches stripe her back and chest. and she is trapped behind their imprisoning snare. she isnt broken, just bent. and caged. and she breathes with shrieks. she had a father that could replenish her spirit. until he got into the mining business as well.

zachary was a poet and a liar. he was a singer and a killer. childlike innocence never laid its hands on anyone. but the teases buried more shallow graves than he knew. he was a martyr for all that would cripple the legs of dancers. he was everything that everyone wanted. because he could be. and he could take it away with finger snaps. and he did. for kicks.

nick was loud. but the volume never had anything worthwhile to say. so ears stopped listening. everything he said was so sarcastic. and unconsciously. unnoticeably. laced with hurt. he was audacious and honest. he was real and really. dead and deadly.

hannah was a chameleon. she blended in and blended out. like a machine, she bled what she saw. and sucked in all that she desired. she was walking perfection. from years of fine tuning. she was porcelain and breakable. she could be smashed against the wall with the inertia it takes to toss a whiffle ball. oh, and you could see through her.

paul never lost his cool. he never dropped everything. for anybody. if you ever needed him for anything, he wouldnt be there. but twice a year. out of the middle of nowhere. he would look at you. and actually see you. he forgot about you inbetween, and you knew it. but sometimes you arent feeling enough pain, and his game is fun.

justine changed her name to jasmine in the seventh grade because it would make her more beautiful. she dated jarrod for three hours in tenth grade so that it was ok for him to make her feel like something. peace of mind can be bought for 25 cents at the convenience store. justine is still ugly. unfortunately she cant see that.

lauren has a hypodermic needle in her arm. shh. look. she doesnt even know it's there. should i tell her? it's just hanging down off the side of her elbow. she looks like she has just been run over by a car. and judging by the cold eyes and lack of a pulse, i'd say she was.

anna cant smile anymore. her body is unblemished and her head is unscathed. she hasnt been lost. she hasnt been forgotten. she hasnt been abandoned and her dark eyes havent seen pain. she couldnt smile anymore because of nothing. some people are just like that. and it is sad.

everyone is a little cut up. a little detached. a little scared. not everyone can use glue without swallowing it. everyone needs someone. and for everyone else: go on believing the cracks arent there until you cant do it anymore. maybe someone will be there when you finally see them.
